Napoleon Total War Update
Extra care should be taken with modifications, trainers, and other things that were not created by the game’s developers. In this case the possibility of malfunctioning or even damaging the game, which may necessitate reinstalling the game, is particularly high.

Napoleon Total War Mods
- edited October 2013Sadly, many players have steam open in the background which allows RomeII to download the patch before they realize it.
It was an inexcusably stupid and careless idea to release an untested patch of this magnitude without a beta. CA devs should be ashamed. - edited October 2013If You have any mod files saved in movie format make sure You remove them as it causes the launcher to crash.
- edited October 2013so it's just mod related? My unmodded patch 5 game starts just fine, no problem with loading and continuing my Pontos campaign either.
- edited October 2013So my game still wont launch with Shader 5 I have to go and edit the preferences script for it to work GREAT JOB CAWindows 10 64bit

- edited October 2013Took out mods, started game without mod manager. No crash.
The mod manager can help you check if there are any mods you forgot to take out, just click on show all packs and check the movie type. - Senior MemberPosts: 130Registered UsersAs I made it clear, the patch 5 is causing the problem, not the mods. I don't have any mods installed upon starting a new patch.
These are all the movie packs in my data folder. All of these are core game files, not mods.

Fixed my problem here.

Lucky you. Nope, I just played Patch 4's Rome II, I close the game, I go to eat and study, I come back, and now the game refuses to start. Simply as that. Then I notice there was a sneak update (Patch 5) downloaded without any prior warning.no problems here. have you updated your drivers recently? if you have maybe rolling them back might help. - edited October 2013I have no mods installed except for starpos changes (number of turns and debug camera). Launcher crashes on pressing play, but the actual game launches fine.
I'm guessing whatever the error is affects some completely, some partially (like me) and some not at all. - edited October 2013tried sige of capua . lags like **** same as before patch.

- edited October 2013For those of you crashing. Uninstall the entire game. Delete the steamapps directory. Go to start>>run>> type in %appdata% then go into 'The Creative Assembly' , then delete the Rome 2 directory. Reboot, then reinstall.

Reinstalling the game is perhaps my only option left.

Thank you for your mail! Much appreciated ^_^Silent did you try the suggestion i pm'd you?
Unfortunately, I already uninstalled completely the game now, and it is re-downloading via steam.
Too bad! But I will have your solution in consideration in case the re-installation does not fix the launch issue.
Thanks for your personal time to send me a mail. I appreciate it! - edited October 2013How about C:UsersUžívatelAppDataRoamingThe Creative AssemblyRome2scriptsuser.script ?CPU: I5 2500K 3,3GHz / GPU: GAINWARD Phantom GTX 760 2GB / RAM: 8 Gb 1600 MHz

- edited October 2013game is now playable for me on high. But when 1000 dead bodies pile up on the ground the framerate drops alot. Same when u order 2 units of hastati to attack one other unit ,and they blob up the fps drops alot too. I noticed the romans fight in slightly better formation now if its 1vs1. in 2 vs one its just one insane blob of helmets.
and the game crashed for the second time when starting a battle. Did never happend with other patches - Senior MemberPosts: 130Registered Userscrashes in battlefields happened with previous patches as well.
- Junior MemberPosts: 11Registered UsersSo to avoid situations like this i set Steam so it wont auto-update games, yet Steam did download the patch and screwed my game. how awesome. My Machine:o:

At least perhaps expect CA to release the patch as BETA first? Rather than releasing it straight to the public with technical issues. - edited October 2013My game is able to be launched but despite of this it's the worst version I've ever played since 18 sept. Patch 4 hit it heavily.
Patch 5 completely broke my game: savagames lost, mod manager not works, graphical horrors also with vanilla sized battles with less than 8000 on the field and without blobbing.
ASTONISHED. - Senior MemberPosts: 130Registered UsersPatch 5 is the worst patch I ever got in my Total War life. - the developers apparently didn't playtest the patch before they release it to the public.
They tossed the patch to our faces without debugging it first. Terrible. I am very disappointed with CA and SEGA.
I just reinstalled now the game to see if reinstallation will fix the problem with the Patch 5 causing the game to not launch at all, but to no avail - the game still WON'T START AT ALL. The Total War Launcher works fine but the Rome II Total War won't start at all - no windows appear, no error messages, nothing. Just nothing happens. As if the 'Play' Button isn't functioning.
No mods installed, verified game cache, reinstalled Rome II and completely both game's installation directory in Steammapps folder, and deleted Rome II's user folder in AppData folder, and still nothing worked here.
Im using Windows 7 64bit here. I didn't had any problems with previous 4 patches.
My friends too who can't launch their own copies of the game, are Win7 64bit users, like me.
Perhaps the patch 5 is not working just for Win7 64bit users?
CA, you disappointed us. - Senior MemberPosts: 294Registered Usershad the same problem and its took me hours of trying to figure it out, what worked for me is deleting the game which was on my mechanical drive ( to save space on my SSD) and deleted all preference scripts, logs etc, /ComputerName/AppData/Roaming/The CreativeAssembly/Rome2/
And delete the *Rome2 folder!
Then I re-installed onto a different drive(SSD)
But I can categorically say there is no improvement (for me) in large battles, when zoomed in on the Blobby mass of units,no notable improvement with FPS shena****ns!
and all that!Coracles and Currachs (They need to be in the game C.A.)
